The purpose of the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) is to advance national and international adult education and literacy opportunities. It promotes, advocates for, and conducts literacy and lifelong education efforts.
Adult Literacy Ambassador Program
Build a team of Ambassadors for your program! Ambassadors become representational leaders by developing their voice so they can effectively represent other students and take action for social change on issues they care about.
Iowa now has two teams of Adult Literacy Ambassadors at EICC and NICC that include an instructor leader and students. These teams have been meeting and developing an Iowa version of the Ambassador Training to meet the needs of Iowa’s adult literacy students and the programs that are supporting them on their literacy journeys. The students from these teams have developed unforgettable stories and will be part of the training team.
Conceived and convened by the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, the National Action Plan for Adult Literacy seeks to address the urgent and entrenched crisis of low literacy in the United States.
Grounded in partnership and a commitment to evidence-based practices and practical solutions, this collaborative plan will be transformative. It has the potential to redefine how American society supports not just adult literacy but adult education in general, thereby improving the lives of individuals, families, and communities living in vulnerable circumstances.
Your Future Starts Here Iowa provides resources for students and educators interested in adult education.
